Couture Blouses—For Weddings and Everyday Wear

Bias Cut Blouse Made from Silk DouppioniWe started making custom made-to-measure blouses for women a couple years ago.Wedding Blouse

Many of our clients weren’t quite sure what to wear with one of our suits and struggled to find something that looked right without being too masculine or boxy.custom silk blouse

Although we do make buttondown dress shirts for guys, we tend not to love the way that dress shirts look on curvier women—they always seem a bit too tight to too loose or even both at the same time.

But on the other hand, we didn’t want to do knit blouses—-there are so many cheap knits out there that clients could always find something if they wanted to go with that (less formal) look.Collared Blouse

Silk Noil BlouseInstead, we began developing “bias cut” pullover blouses.

Fabric that is “bias cut” is cut diagonally across the fabric so that the grain runs at a 45 degree angle.

Raw Silk BlouseThis method of cutting uses much more fabric, but creates a piece that is quite stretchy and drapes beautifully.

These blouses can also be made from the most gorgeous of our woven silks and wools—the result is crisper and much more formal than a knit, but still has all of the great qualities that we associate with knits.

silk noil blouseThe blouse is entirely made from a gorgeous necktie silk with subtle multi-colored stripes.

This piece is pictured in a sleeveless version, but all of our blouses can be made sleeveless, with cap sleeves, short sleeves, 3/4 sleeves, or long sleeves with any style of dress shirt cuff.

il_fullxfull.481757349_tos5As each piece is completely custom, we can mix and match any details to get the perfect look for you.

The second top has a large 1920s style collar and bloused cuffs with gathering.

The result is a feminine take on the dress shirt with an utterly soft and stretchy body and sleeves and a crisp collar.

The third top pictured is also made from a soft silk noil with a surplice front with gorgeous iridescent silk duppioni ruffles.il_fullxfull.411780457_9en9

This piece is one of our sportswear looks and is pictured with a silk tweed pencil skirt that we made—a piece like this is great for business or pleasure.

Pinstripe HoodieThis look also shows our cap sleeve.il_fullxfull.411780659_cu6l

The tuxedo top shown here in blue silk douppioni is another version of our necktie look, but here in a more formal version designed to look great with one our tuxes.il_fullxfull.402898025_fog5

The top has a built in bowtie and cummerbund.   The ties can be tied in a bunch of different ways.

We can get a over a hundred different colors of silk for this look.

The look with the orange and yellow silk burnout velvet is one of our cowl neck styles.  The draped triangular inset looks gorgeous with lots of our suit and vest styles.il_fullxfull.402897671_hxmg

Finally, the last few pics show one of our hoodie tops.

This blouse is cut from a gorgeous superfine wool menswear fabric.

The result is a gorgeous pullover that can be layered into all sorts of gorgeous outfits.

Most of the tops that we sell are part of a larger custom outfit.  But if you are thinking of a top, contact me at superhero@vigilantelabs.com so that we can design something for you

Retro Summer Dresses

We love to make 1950s and 1960s style dresses.

Some for bridesmaids and summer weddings, some for work, author’s book tours, some for picnics and BBQs.Bell Dress

Because everything we do is custom, we can make a dress in any fabric and with any set of details you can imagine.

Suppose you see an old newsreel and like the dress that Jackie Kennedy is wearing in it.  Just forward a still on to us and we can duplicate it, either exactly, or with a more modern fit for wear with modern undergarments.Cotton Bell Dress

We can get 10s of thousands of different fabrics.

If you email me, I can send you links to some of the best suppliers of designer fabrics or can mail you swatches of the fabrics that we have in stock.  Classic wool suitings (we specialize in crepe!), satins and silks, or cotton sateen and cotton prints.

We can make dresses in any size as well.  So if you have a hard to fit figure, but want something that flatters, we can handle it.

For special dresses, we do a muslin fitting .  For this process, we make a mock-up of the dress in cotton and send that to you to try on and provide us with digital pics (or we fit it on you in person if you can make it to Denver).  Wool Crepe 1950s Dress

This guarantees a perfect fit and the exact look you are going for.

The pictures show different dresses that we have made in the past month or so.

A draped bell dress with dolman sleeves made from nude cotton sateen with horsehair in the hem.

Two plus size dresses in stunning cotton prints with a wide surplice.  And a mini surplice 1950s style dress made from hunter wool crepe.

Early 1960s Dress SketchThe sketches show some different ideas that I just sketched up for a group that is having us make some retro bridesmaid’s dresses.

Picnic and Party Aprons

Spring and summer parties need that outdoor element.  Time to head out to the park or the backyard to serve up some gourmet food.

I designed this style with the hostess in mind.  It is part dress and part apron, simple to slip over jeans or a skirt when the guests start to arrive.

The style in white (with the Kingyo fish applique) is made from a gorgeous cotton jacquard fabric with a white on white floral design that has been printed with African symbols.  The turquoise felt belt ties in the back and is completely handmade.

The second style (with felt dots) is cut from a water resistant micro-fiber fabric…. the kind of fabric that you might use for a luxury raincoat.  This apron has a little bit of a vintage 50s beatnik look to it.

One of our specialties is 1950s and 1960s cocktail and party attire.  We make the pieces with a lot of vintage style, but with totally modern touches that make for a fresh look.

Completely custom party aprons generally cost around $220.  We can make them in any fabric, with and type of design or print that you might like.

We can make anything in our small couture house.  Located in Denver, CO, we make stunning suits and dresses for customers around the world.

Contact Lianna K. (superher0@vigilantelabs.com) about your custom project and she can send you a sketch and fabric swatches.

Retro Cocktail Dresses

You can’t beat the 1960s when it comes to chic streamlined cocktail dresses.

A little bit Mad Men, a little bit space age, the A-line dress is the classic silhouette of the 60s.

The first dress (in red and black) is cut from a vintage wool handbag fabric.  The second dress (with the hand-crafted felt belt) was cut from a cotton print that had spend decades in an attic but was still stunning to use.  The third dress (in tan and taupe) is made from a retro-modern fabric by designer Amy Butler.

An A-line dress (for those of you who don’t know) is fitted at the bust but then flares out with straight clean lines.  It can be belted in (as on the lime dress) or not depending on your taste at the moment.

Because we make each of our patterns from scratch, we can make an A-line dress with any type of neckline.  Just ask and we can sketch up some different options including lower cut dresses, and dresses with all types of interesting straps.

Just contact Lianna (superhero@vigilantelabs.com) and we can design something for you.

The first photo set above was taken by Annabelle Reboli, an amazing photographer who recently moved to Denver from NYC.  You definitely want to contact her (www.AnnabelleReboli.com) if you are looking for a fashion or wedding photographer in the Denver area.
