Retro Cocktail Dresses

You can’t beat the 1960s when it comes to chic streamlined cocktail dresses.

A little bit Mad Men, a little bit space age, the A-line dress is the classic silhouette of the 60s.

The first dress (in red and black) is cut from a vintage wool handbag fabric.  The second dress (with the hand-crafted felt belt) was cut from a cotton print that had spend decades in an attic but was still stunning to use.  The third dress (in tan and taupe) is made from a retro-modern fabric by designer Amy Butler.

An A-line dress (for those of you who don’t know) is fitted at the bust but then flares out with straight clean lines.  It can be belted in (as on the lime dress) or not depending on your taste at the moment.

Because we make each of our patterns from scratch, we can make an A-line dress with any type of neckline.  Just ask and we can sketch up some different options including lower cut dresses, and dresses with all types of interesting straps.

Just contact Lianna ( and we can design something for you.

The first photo set above was taken by Annabelle Reboli, an amazing photographer who recently moved to Denver from NYC.  You definitely want to contact her ( if you are looking for a fashion or wedding photographer in the Denver area.

Retro Party Attire

We made this outfit for a customer in Baltimore who wanted something unique to wear to her brother’s wedding.

The corset top is made from a wool herringbone tweed in blues and greys. It is completely structured and shaped.

The skirt is made from 100% silk duchess with wide pleats.

The whole outfit feels completely fifties; but like all of the retro pieces that we make, it is modern enough in fit and details to look exactly right for wearing to a wedding or party today.

After sketching several different options for her, the customer decided that she had to have sleeves feeling that this look would be more flattering. But this style would look amazing without the sleeves as well.

We are more than a tailoring or alteration shop….

We can design and make and original pattern for almost anything imaginable.

We use pictures of you wearing the muslin to achieve a great fit

For certain items (like this set, with a corset) we offer a full couture muslin fitting. This entails having us make a complete mock-up of the outfit from rough cotton. We mail this to you for feedback and pictures, thereby assuring a perfect fit for the final garment.

1950s Style Party Dresses

Here are a couple versions of one of the favorite dresses that we have made.

It is pure 1950’s but with a few touches that make for a more flattering look that doesn’t require that you wear retro undergarments as well!

The sage green dress is made from a rayon crepe that is ultra lightweight, breathes beautifully, and handles the light beautifully…

The dress is cut with an Empire waist and a full pleated skirt.

The second dress (in black and white) is made from wool crepe. The wool is also quite light weight and great for all seasons. The crepe is made from crimped wool fibers that give the fabric a pebbly matte texture.

On both dresses, the polka dots are made from wool and acrylic felt.

These are only one example of the dresses that we can make. Use your imagination to design the ultimate bridesmaid’s or party dress and we will make it for you.

Custom made dresses like this start at around $265.

We are a full service couture studio located in Denver, Colorado and can hand make anything that you can dream up. For non-local customers, we have a highly developed muslin fitting process that produces the best fit around.
