1950s Style Bustiers & Corsets

1950s era Womens CorsetsWe make many gorgeous ball gowns every year.

But sometimes our brides and partygoers want a dress that is on the simpler side.  Hence our vintage tea-length collection.

These dresses, which we call our ’57 Retro Dresses, often don’t have a built in corset.

Although these dresses (and mod dresses from other brands!) often look great with just a basic bra, a corset can really shape the body and add to the look.

To guarantee the best possible look with unstructured dresses, we introduced our line of vintage style corsets.1950s Style Corset

1950s Style Lace CorsetThese pieces feature gorgeous silk and lace fronts—-they certainly don’t look like the ugly shapewear from a department store that you would be ashamed to have anyone see.

The backs are made from stretchy powermesh with adjustable hooks and eyes in the back.

What is more, they can me made in any color you can imagine and you can choose from dozens of different laces.

The skirt is partially inspired by the creations of couturier Charles James who was renowned for his sculptural drapery, and then paired with one of our boned halter vests with lacing in the back.

These pieces are cut and sewn from hand-underlined silk duppioni.  By laying in a soft cotton layer, we are able to create a full bodied sculpted look that is wonderfully rumple resistant.Corset Back Dress

The halter bodice is made with spiral steel boning for a comfortable and flexible feeling.

When we make a ball gown like this one, we generally Muslin Fit all of the pieces.

For this process, we mail you a cotton mock-up of the dress to try on.  You send us digital pics and all of your comments and feedback and we rework the patterns to fit you exactly.

No more having your B-cup dress altered to fit a A-cup or a DD.  We start with your measurements and ship out a dress that fits.

We also made the 1950s style wedding hat and the freshwater pearl jewelry in colors to match the dress.  We love to make accessories.

Wedding Dresses in EVERY Size

So you are petite or plus size.  That doesn’t mean that you should be stuck with a wedding dress that is anything less than exactly the dress of your dreams.

Because we custom make every piece using a unique hand-drafted pattern, we can make a wedding dress that fits you perfectly.  Our muslin fitting process utilizes proven couture techniques to guarantee a fit whether you are local or international.

The light pink dress in the photos is a dress that we made for a plus-sized customer who wanted a look that recalled the 1950’s.  It is made from silk shantung with a handmade tulle petticoat in vivid turquoise.

The white dress with a bolero was made for a long distance customer who was smaller than our smallest dress form.  In order to get a great fit, we made a muslin mock-up of the dress with the ruffles and flowers drawn on.

After she provided a few photos of herself wearing the mock-up, we were able to make a dress that fit her beautifully.

The third dress, made in a golden yellow silk taffeta was made for another long distance customer who needed a stunning plus size wedding gown.

Just drop us a line at superhero@vigilantelabs.com and we can sketch up some ideas for the ideal wedding dress and start getting together some stunning fabrics.

Our dresses start at about $900 for a silk piece.  In general, we can handmake a dress for the same price as a mass produced wedding gown.  So definitely write us if you are curious about having us give you a quote.

We are a full service dressmaking and couture studio located in Denver, Colorado.  Our patternmaking skills are the best in the world, meaning that we can make anything that you can dream up in any fabric.
